Thank you for your interest in applying to go on a missions trip to Haiti. We are scheduling teams to go with us to the Mission of Hope in Haiti. Mission of Hope is a Christian organization that has a 76 acre facility north of Port au Prince. It operates the Church of Hope, School of Hope, the Hope House Orphanage, the Feed A Child program and the Hospital of Hope. Mission of Hope provides food and clean water to tens of thousands of people every day.

Haiti has a deep need for medical personnel and skilled workers of every type. We are very excited about the possibility of having you join with us as we rebuild and give hope to the people of Haiti. Please download the application and read through the package. Once you have read through the package, fill out the application at "Apply to Go!"  If you have any questions, please contact Clari Balcon at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or call (786) 888-4772. We know that God had an awesome plan for you and we will be praying as you prepare to go to Haiti.

We have a trip to Haiti confirmed for May 12-18, 2010. We are currently taking applications and are in the process of scheduling other dates.

FACTS ABOUT HAITI:
  • Haiti is one of the most densely populated regions in the Western Hemisphere and makes up 27,750sq km (10,714 sq mi) of the western third of Hispaniola, the second-largest island in the Caribbean. It's near the center of the West Indies, about960km (594mi) south of Florida and 450km (280mi) north of Venezuela. It was discovered by Christopher Columbus on December 6,1492 while he was on his voyage to the New World. Haiti contains a few remaining cloud-forested mountains and some fertile river valleys, although much of the countryside suffers from desertification and erosion. It has two large peninsulas, the northern and southern claws, which are separated by the Golfe de la Gonave. Haiti is a much needed mission field. 95% of the people are of African descent, 5% are mulatto and European descent.
  • The official religion of Haiti is Catholicism, which embraces about 80% of the population. The practiced religion of many Haitians is voodoo. Voodoo is essentially the worship of Satan and his angels. Approximately 16% of Haiti is protestant.
  • 50% of the population does not get enough food to eat daily. Rice and beans are the staple food of the Haitian people.
  • Haiti has an 85% unemployment rate. Daily minimum wage is $2.50 US. It is very difficult to live on such a small wage. The major industries are sugar refining, cement, textiles, and tourism.
  • Haiti has no public transportation system. Taxis and Tap-Taps (small pick-up trucks) are privately owned and are not big enough to meet all the needs of the population. For this reason many people walk where they need to go.
  • Approximately 60% of Haiti's population is under the age of 25.
  • The main language spoken is Creole.

"I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me." Matthew 25:40
